A message from Dr. Farley

Recently the Kansas Safe and Secure Schools Unit has become aware of a potential "swatting" event that was planned for today, 10/3/24. As you may know swatting involves a prank call to law enforcement indicating an incident is actively occurring that would require a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team response at a specifically identified location. The group identified for making the threat had put out a nationwide request to identify schools that group members would like to see "swatted." As a result of this, the Safe and Secure Schools unit reminded districts to take all information obtained (regarding swatting threats or otherwise) seriously and to continue to keep open lines of communication with law enforcement to disseminate any information on these calls should they arise. USD 509 Administration prepared staff for the possibility of a school wide lockdown. Fortunately this was not necessary but steps were taken to make sure students and staff were safe. Please call Dr. Farley if you have any questions.
